Romania 2015

'I don't mind if anyone wants to sit in the garden drinking beer for 5 days straight, it's their holiday!'

Clive, now this sounds like my type of holiday.....

Having a base camp to leave the trailer so i can go off and explore would be great for me Clive so i would be glad to hang around a few days at least , it will be a new experience for us so beyond getting there i have no specific plans other than to enjoy opportunities as they present themselves .

Any further updates on this one chaps?,like route, timings & stops etc etc, I do quite fancy it, but my beloved isn't sure if she can get the dates off work.....may try talking her into letting me join u lot without her!!

Andy

Andy, I think that much of this detail is actually in the thread. It's a bit meandering I'll grant you. We're just debating whether to get down to the coast Friday night and cross over then, pushing no more than an hour on the opposite side or to stay over on this bank and get the 8.20 train as other has indicated on the Saturday. The route is sort of dictated by the camp sites suggested. So it's down through Germany, Austria and Hungary. I think we're currently favouring crossing Friday night, picking up the guys as they come past as it were. Other wise, coming down from where we live, the first day is Derbyshite to Folkstone which isn't exactly a heroic drive or a good use of a day's holiday.

from previous post this is my idea but as i have only book the return ticket so far we can still play with route and campsites stops
As far as i know the meeting point will be at the ferry/tunnel then after that the campsites.

can I strongly recommend if you get the chance stopping off in Zagan Poland to visit stalag luft VII, home of the great escape. It has only recently been rediscovered and is in the process of being restored into a museum and memorial. well worth a visit now before it gets too sanitised. The surrounding forest is much as it would have been in the days of the camp, some of the original buildings can be seen in ruins burried in the forest, as can the original rail platform where the escapees caught trains.

Accomodation in Poland is cheap and plentiful on the main road routes. fuel is also cheaper than Europe.

\it is more or less en route

oops, just checked the map, it's a bit of a diversion:oops:

still well worth a visit if your passing that way!

Those with long range tanks might want to go via luxembourg to take advantage of the very cheap fuel there (currently diesel .96e/litre I believe), then you might be able to make hungary before refueling

I quite fancy either going via zagan & aushwitz if I can join this trip, ( subject to my beloveds permission) maybe drive down with the group on the outward leg, and return on a different route, ie via Poland & take in some of the sights there on the way back.
i have heard that aushwitz is very moving

Sounds like a plan, I should have my tank fitted by then.

I'm still keeping a close eye on this thread hoping in vane I can join last minute!

I wondered if enough time has passed to firm up the table a bit, this one is quite old now.

Is it too soon to confirm a number of trucks arriving yet?

I may have missed some drop-out or new recruit posts, apologies if I have.

Some feedback on confirmations may be useful...

I'm still there, did you expect anything else?

Jon is out (no more Cruiser) and I have had work get in the way so I'm out too unfortunately :(
