Croatia! We found a ‘free camp’ site close to the Plitvice Lakes area (not really free!) and decided to test out our bed platform in the car so we could get up super early and just hit the road without taking long to pack up. You can only buy tickets to the lakes two or more days in advance so we needed to be there at opening time to ensure we got in. It’s a little small in the car, but will be perfect for emergency/quick getaway nights or terrible weather nights that may come. It did get a bit warm, so we ended up waking up super early and decided to hit the road (we were the second to leave the campsite so at least we didn’t make all the noise at 6am ). A half hour later we were parked in the campervan car park and ready to roll. Third in line, we waited impatiently for the ticket office (and coffee shop!) to open. And off we went, leaving those before us at the first viewpoint and hurrying a bit ahead to the lakeside. It was spectacular, magical, such amazing picturesque waters, so many waterfalls, incredible views and walking paths along the lakes. Morning was definitely the best time, there were places we felt like we could have been there alone, that definitely changed by mid Morning. We ended up walking for four hours around the lakes, up into the viewpoints and then caught the bus back to the main entrance to hit the road again .... what an incredible morning, so glad we went, I would recommend this to everyone! It was 1pm and we were looking at what to do next .... we realised how close we were to the border so made a snap decision, let’s go to Bosnia!! So after less than 24 hours in Croatia we found ourselves at the border, ready to leave the EU!
Croatian lawn mowing
Our not so free campsite ... beautiful and serene, if you didn’t count the French student group!
Our platform bed in the car.. a bit of a squeeze but will do well for emergency stop overs, terrible weather or needing to get going on super early mornings
Our first view of the lakes, stunning
The Big waterfall
Plitvice Lakes
Noticed this little guy playing hide and seek!
Plitvice Lakes
I think this was my fave in the end, we were so close!
That water!
