Croatia! We found a ‘free camp’ site close to the Plitvice Lakes area (not really free!) and decided to test out our bed platform in the car so we could get up super early and just hit the road without taking long to pack up. You can only buy tickets to the lakes two or more days in advance so we needed to be there at opening time to ensure we got in. It’s a little small in the car, but will be perfect for emergency/quick getaway nights or terrible weather nights that may come. It did get a bit warm, so we ended up waking up super early and decided to hit the road (we were the second to leave the campsite so at least we didn’t make all the noise at 6am ). A half hour later we were parked in the campervan car park and ready to roll. Third in line, we waited impatiently for the ticket office (and coffee shop!) to open. And off we went, leaving those before us at the first viewpoint and hurrying a bit ahead to the lakeside. It was spectacular, magical, such amazing picturesque waters, so many waterfalls, incredible views and walking paths along the lakes. Morning was definitely the best time, there were places we felt like we could have been there alone, that definitely changed by mid Morning. We ended up walking for four hours around the lakes, up into the viewpoints and then caught the bus back to the main entrance to hit the road again .... what an incredible morning, so glad we went, I would recommend this to everyone! It was 1pm and we were looking at what to do next .... we realised how close we were to the border so made a snap decision, let’s go to Bosnia!! So after less than 24 hours in Croatia we found ourselves at the border, ready to leave the EU!

Our not so free campsite ... beautiful and serene, if you didn’t count the French student group!

Our platform bed in the car.. a bit of a squeeze but will do well for emergency stop overs, terrible weather or needing to get going on super early mornings

Plenty of food and drink too!

Stunning. Just shows that you don't have to go to the ends of the earth to see this stuff. Great pics Guys.

Very Nice!
And as Chris Said - Nice to see that you do not have to travel to the other side of the world to get these views.

Silly Question - Do you have an Instagram account? Would love to share these Photos with the Mrs.

Looking forward to the next update!

Thanks Chris. All very easy to do distance wise from the UK. :)

What a trip Grant, amazingly beautiful places you’ve been.

We’re looking forward to the Romanian leg of your tour, but I can’t promise anything quite as lovely as you’ve already seen.

We’ll be at the house from mid evening on Monday 19th after collecting Chas from the airport on the way up, so you can turn up at your convenience.

Please call us if you’ll arrive before us, and we’ll arrange with a neighbor to give you the keys.

Take care and enjoy this trip of a lifetime

Great trip Grant looking forward to watching the updates.

I'm not on Facebook but have followed you on Instagram. Do you have a map of your planned route?

Happy travels

Sarah & Grant’s driving adventure from London to Mongolia (hopefully) and as many countries and cultures as possible along the way in our trusty travel companion Beastie and our trailer tent Maxi. We are hoping our path will take us through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, (maybe Pakistan & India), some of the 'Stans, Mongolia and then returning via Russia.
Awesome, have fun!!

Excellent trip, photos and updates,
Keep them coming

Safe travels Grant, enjoy the easy bit before the real adventures begin.

Just followed you on Insta ;)

I don’t think Mark is referring to România somehow...

Bravo for making it happen and wishing you a safe journey

Thanks Clive - Will do.

Great stuff Grant, keep it coming... as some of us don't do Facebook.

Will do .. it may just be a little adhoc.

No map as such as we haven't planned that far ahead. The list of countries in the first post is as good as it gets currently :)
