Gra, dreadfully sorry but in deleting a host of spam mails just now, I inadvertently selected your post about max possible mpg from a 120 series.

Thread was - can we envisage that this is possible?

Collectively we felt - No.

Feel free to continue.

Apols once again

Chris

That's OK Chris,

I would say to get 44 mpg out of a 120 series, then you would need one of them new "traction beams" fitted to the front.
Little help from the 44 ton artic in front, and I don't mean slip-streaming it.

As for reality, 44 mpg, never can be done.

Gra

Tend to agree Gra, best I ever had was about 33 mpg....

I can just get 31, on a clear blue sky, full moon, wind up my tail, etc.

44 is just so far from the reality, that it's a joke.

33 is great, like that a lot.

Would like 44 even more, but it's never going to happen.

Gra

33 mpg is certainly not happening now with the 100...:icon-rolleyes:

You may need to keep in mind that, if you're running oversize tyres then your odometer might be under reading? So your MPG might be (slightly) better than you think.

The difference between 265/65R17 and 265/70R17 is about 3.5% - so if you apply that your mileage (add 3.5%), your resultant consumption will also go up by 3.5% - OK, not a huge different but since we seem to be counting........every little helps.

Never ever ever will a 120 get that kind of consumption under 'normal driving conditions'. My Suzuki 650 is touted at 65mpg and is only on 50mpg on my commute - no way could a 120 come close.

I never get better than 25mpg and am happy with that considering it's more of a brick shape now.

I am getting 29mpg with hilux
On road tyres with no mods and in 2wd

I think that's real-world Andy - about 9.7 litres per 100 which I think is pretty damn good really

Very good.
Most I seem to get around town is no better than 25.
On a motorway run, at 55 - 60 mph, just crack 30 mpg.

Honestly; brim-to-brim, perfect weather, 300 odd motorway miles, all the time in the world, slipstreaming trucks, ballet shoes on, air-con off and never using more than 2K rpm.

Very, very, very tedious indeed, but try it.

If I get to see 30mpg on normal driving I'm doing well

...... HOWEVER ....... years ago I had a pajero (shogun) with the 2.5 TD engine and was very under geared (80mph = 4,000rpm). I got around 25 - 27mpg out of it usually.

I did a journey of ~150 miles one time where there was a reasonable bit of snow on the roads, we were driving in clean wheel tracks and with oncoming traffic I just couldnt overtake too often. The journey took twice as long as normal, I kept moving but at ~ 40mph.
I got close to 50 mpg on that journey.

Moral of the story is that if you slow down enough you might be surprised at what you can get.
Its not real world practical but it is achievable on a one off. I think thats the point the OP is trying to make.

Not gonna lie, but I still find this very hard to believe, but if you got 50mpg than I'm not going to question you...

Doesn't the 120 have a MPG on board display, if so would be good to see some actual proof from these optimistic people

Every thing there looks normal,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,except the 44.34 mpg.
You sure you got your figures right?

Even the 36,11 mpg looks suspect, but maybe possible.

Gra

Can you Sunday drivers just get your foot down? 20mpg is a much more manly figure to aim for !:laughing-rolling:

Ps stop holding up the traffic, those mobility scooters want past you!

Depending on conditions my 100 averages 16mpg down country lanes and 29-33 mpg on a 200 mile mainly motorway run when driven at around 55-60mph.

Thats cheered me up a bit Briane my 90 gives around the same figures even with an oversized exhaust and intercooler with the fuel turned up plus a k&n air filter , jacked up with big wheels and the turbo whistling from 13000rpm .

That seems far too much work inputting figures all The time to work out the mpg imo. I just fill it up, drive it and fill it when it gets low. Worked it out a couple of times out of interest when I got it and after the mods.
All I know is it uses less when the wife drives it
