Project 80: Codename Grey Ghost

^^Agreed. Marks have never been a cheap option. I don't offer their product myself. Just pointing to something that works though.

Beau, the extra wire is the orange light I'd guess. I don't have that. But it's will be like you main tank, with a warning light for low. Well I know I am low - that's why I am on the sub tank. So I haven't wired that up.

Chris, I like that. Hmm. I have all the right gears, but it means pulling the rear extension housing off, pulling the VC out and the pinion shaft, then doing the same from the manual gearbox and swapping them over. This isn't do do with tyre sizes. It's because I have a petrol t box in a manual diesel. So, If I had one of these and just lied about tyre sizes it might work. there'd be some guess work I think. Currently it is read out, the WRONG way. When I am physically doing 70 mph, my speedo reads something like 65 mph. So when I do 70 by the speedo, I am actually moving at 75 mph in reality. That's opposite to what you normally get. Usually when speedo says 70, you are in fact only doing 67. Good for not getting speeding tickets. It read right until I swapped the T box. That might look expensive but if you have ever tried to take the rear extension housing to bits, you'll realise it good value. And I'd need to do that twice. I'd rather swap the whole box.

Mine is a bit like that Chris on the 35's, not as far out but reading 70 it's actually doing 72 mph, the 33's make the speedo bang on.

It's all looking good btw, even better if that prop is sorted

Ordered one. £135 shipped to the UK with 80 series plug and play connections? Sorry but life's too short to pi55 about on this. One hole and a grommet, adjust on the move? I'll have some of that. Well done, nice spot.

Glad I could help. My speedo issue was the same Chris, with the speedo reading about 10kph lower than reality when I put my bigger tyres on. My 'matchbox' unit is an older version which has a switch on the face so if I change tyres sizes from normal to large, the switch can be moved from 'normal' to 'play' mode. I leave mine in play with the larger tyres on all the time. :icon-biggrin:
Plus as mentioned, probably a hell of a lot easier to install one of these, and you can always change things later too if you put bigger tyres on.......

Annoyingly when I went to bigger tyres of course I re-geared the diffs! Everything read correctly. There si just too much opportunity for things to go wrong pulling the end casing off. There is a shim in there which is hard to seat when the box is sitting under the truck. Fine if it's upended on the deck, but in situ, it's a cunning stunt..

Spot the difference. Come on it's not that hard...

That's right! I have wired the sub fuel tank gauge in. Well spotted.

It does leave me with these though ..

I was going to mention that but I thought it was too obvious.

It's like Catchphrase Chas. Say what you see.... It was quite easy.

New boots, white lettering the right way too :icon-cool:

I went with the same size, 35's basically but changed from 17" rims to 16". So they're 315.75.16

Plenty of 17" Coopers around, I just figured that 16" is a more common tyre if I ever got into trouble somewhere remote.

I actually DID wire up the fuel gauge. And it works..

Going to look at storage options today. Just some more organising needed.

Cheers Tone.

Made an early start on some new brackets this morning.

But what could they be for? Milled some bits out of the heap of plastic stuff I have stashed.

They are a perfect fit on here. Like bought ones!

So I can do this .....

Then I did some stuff in wood. Cripes that's been a long time since I made sawdust.

Have to say it looks simple but what a difference it's made to the way I pack and get to the things I need all the time. Rather than just cramming stuff in, I can now get to the Jetboil and gas, tea and coffee, spoons etc. Yep. I like that.
