decided to do a bit more on the pig today.
positioned a 2.5" hole saw where i wanted the chimney to be, and marked through the centre of it, to give me a centre point.
centre punched and pilot drilled.
a decent hole saw and plenty of cutting fluid made light work of drilling the hole.
marked the tube that will be the chimney.
and cut it off.
while the cutting disc was in the grinder, i chopped off 3 pieces of tube, these will be the fit together chimney pieces.
ground some galv off the tube where i intended to weld, and cleaned some of the powder coating off the pig.
perfect use for one of my new magnetic corner welding clamps.
cut 2 50mm strips of 2.5mm sheet steel.
marked 25mm in on the 50mm strip, and 25mm in on the tube.
started welding the 2 pieces together.
i welded a bit, and then hammered and bent it around a bit more, then welded, and so on.
had to cut the end off the 50mm strip, and then finished welding it on.
test fitted it.
found a length of 20mm x 3mm strip in the shed, and cut, bent and drilled a hole, in an 80mm piece of it.
drilled the door and bolted it on.
cut and bent another piece of 20mm x 3mm.
clamped and welded it in place.
decided to fire up the pig!
being a carpenter means theres always loads of fire wood!
decided to do it in the shed due to the fact is was raining very heavily outside.
it got quite smoky as all the powder coating burnt off the old cylinder.
had flames shooting out of the chimney at one point.
put a piece of mesh over the top of the chimney to help prevent sparks from shooting out of the top.
the powder coating burnt off nicely, and a quick brush over with a wire brush took it back to bare metal.
once it was going it was very efficient.
decided to use it to burn out my old panhard rod bushes.
one out.
flipped it around.
and other side done.
very pleased with how well it worked! after half an hour or so it was burning very efficiently and kicking out a lot of heat. i did wonder about maybe drilling a few holes in the bottom to help it draw more air in and burn even better.
what i dont want those is the possibility of hot embers or sparks falling out of the bottom.
so i need to make the other 2 sections of chimney, and make the hot plate.
