Doctor- by definition is one who shares knowledge (not the one who prescribes medicines)
Mechanic or Engineer- one who designed or repairs equipment (cars) on which our life depends
My logic- doctor is supposed to tell us how to take care of our body and we are responsible solely for maintaining it. But like how mechanic orders parts, a doctor is ordering medication n devices
Mechanic takes care of the most important external machines our life depends on
This I feel a mechanic should be paid more than a doctor
What you all feel ???

Just felt Doctors deserve respect n engineers, money

Hmmm after the watching the trauma endured by my fiance during 6 years of medical school, the ongoing trauma of the hours and the frankly shitty salary relative to the work put in to get the qualification. All doctors should receive a brand new 300 series cruiser on qualifying and a voucher for free fuel.

There's good and bad of both but a car is a fact sheet , indeed you can buy a workshop manual whereas the vagaries of people , health and life are infinite .

Of all the people ive met in my life the only one i genuinely admire is a Surgeon who did all he could to repair the damage caused by another Surgeon , the latter would have both hands amputated if there was any justice in the world .

Medicine is very deep knowledge, definitely not easy. It’s further complicated by pharmaceutical industry. I went to GP couple of times and he just gives pain killers. If we ask for actual underlying cause and how to treat without medication, he would not answer. Majority of doctors became like this

A GP is a jack of all trades , first contact primarily a chemist , he/she decides if you need to been seen by someone who specifically specialized in the area of your need .

The Surgeon I admire once he had done all he could ultimately saving me from amputation (or at least delaying it a decade) wanted me to go to an ankle specialist for another operation because its not his field of expertise , took him about 5 years to convince me i can trust his mate to do it right .

GP was genuinely shocked when i asked him to stick a knife in the back of my neck to lance a deep boil , I'd have done it myself but i couldn't see it . What followed was 2 years of hospital consultations with various specialists before the "operation" :wtf:

As soon as they wheeled me back to my bed i got dressed and said right can i go now , not yet , not yet . Eventually someone arrived to tell me the weighty news "all clear" to which i replied huh what whats all clear ? and for the very first time in 2 years a very uncomfortable doctor whispered in my ear cancer .

I looked around the ward at all the other patients which made me hold my tongue but i wanted to say i told the doctor is was a boil on day one , i've had them before i just couldn't see this one to fix it myself !

Just can't the sse point of the question. Who should be paid more, the pilot or the person who packs the parachutes. But then I am just grumpy and don't understand anymore why people post non Cruiser related s***t on here.

Dying as I currently am, doctors can't do anything for me and I've sold my Cruisers, so it's probably the person who packs the parachute!

There's a great book called "This is going to hurt", written by an NHS Doctor who since left the profession. It's a warts and all look at the profession specifically in the UK.
It's funny in places but the overall feeling you get from it is they are severely overworked and equally underpaid. In my industry working hours are strictly regulated but that Doctor who may very well have your life in their hands, could well have done a 3 month run of 70+ hour weeks with just a handful of days off in the middle.
I attended a friends wedding,, she took off her scrubs changed into her wedding dress raced to the car park and was back on shift 4 hours later. They didn't go on honeymoon for 4 months because that was the first time they could both get leave. When she had maternity leave, he had to cover her shifts.

As a mechanic or technician or what ever the term is now I would and can answer this one easily ....

Doctor ....every time.

As a mechanic working in any trade you are under valued and the bottom of the pile...... sales department get all the free trips and free gifts.... and yet...
In the Ag and Plant world the salesman will sell the first machine....service of that machine and the technicians that support it will sell the subsequent machines...the tech or mechanic call them what you will is expected to go out on site in any weather 7 days a week to fix the machine that the customer probably broke through carelessness or lack of maintenance... yet he will be the member of the company that gets the least recognition .

Most of the above also applies to the doctors I know.... and they're the ones I go to when I've broken a bit of myself.....

Wages, like most other Western prices, are determined by supply and demand.
We all start dying the moment we are born. Unfortunately, Chris, you can see the end of your life fairly clearly. I'm also "dying", a bit more slowly with prostate cancer but when I try and focus on my date of death it's very blurred and relatively far off.

This thread reminds me of some jokes - all variations on the same theme;

A mechanic was removing the engine parts from a motorcycle,
when he spotted a famous heart surgeon in his shop,
He called the surgeon and said.
“Look at this engine, I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired and put them back....
So why do I get such a small salary and you get such a huge sum?”
The doctor smiled at the mechanic and came close to his ear and said;
“Try the same when the engine is running!.”

A gynaecologist had become fed up with malpractice insurance and paperwork,
and was burned out. Hoping to try another career where skilful hands would be
beneficial, he decided to become a mechanic. He went to the local technical
college, signed up for evening classes, attended diligently, and learned all he
could.
When the time of the practical exam approached, the gynaecologist prepared
carefully for weeks, and completed the exam with tremendous skill.
When the results came back, he was surprised to find that he had obtained a score of
150%. Fearing an error, he called the Instructor, saying,
“I don’t want to appear ungrateful for such an outstanding result, but I wonder if there is an
error in the grade?”
“The instructor said, “During the exam, you took the engine apart perfectly,
which was worth 50% of the total mark. You put the engine back together again
perfectly, which is also worth 50% of the mark.”

After a pause, the instructor added, “I gave you an extra 50% because you did it

all through the tailpipe, which I’ve never seen done in my entire career”.

....and there are many more.

Quite happy to give the money to the doctors, all in the medical profession deserve it imo.
I fix cars for a living too!
