I have always found insurance prices stupid. The thing I really do not understand (well I sort of understand it but it bugs me) Is how can your premium go up assuming no claims and the same car, address cover etc. The car has got a year older, therefore worth less, You have gained a years experience and a years no claims. the math just does not work.

You are making a fundamentally incorrect assumption, and that is that insurance companies see your welfare as a primary objective. This is incorrect. Your welfare is only incidental to their bottom line. I know because I worked for a large insurance company for a short while. They charge the max amount that they think they can before you go to their competition. At the moment the car insurance market is on the rebound after taking what they think is a hammering over the last few years (although they still made healthy profits throughout). In order to try and keep all this fair to the consumer, we have the FSA, who at best have good intentions...

Sorry, I do understand the why's and wherefors, however it just bugs me. in theory it should be:
Insurance renewel=Previous price-NCB*n-Value of vehicle*n-Age of driver*n-Convictions*n.

I know there is more to it than that and that this is very over simplified but for a renewel the calculation "should" not be much more complicated.
Assuming that the original price did not include any promotional offers, it was deemed as a fair price to cover the risk. Therefore a year on the risk from other drivers is the same but NCB, Value, Age etc "should" bring the cost down.
This is all very much a moot point but hey I am making it anyway.

I still think we should start our own - just need to find a specialist underwriter to explain it to. Now that I'm working for a global Corporate Insurance co I'll try find a friendly underwriter to bounce it off ;)

I renewed with Flux on the 29th September, on the 3rd October they contacted me saying because of my claims record they cannot now insure me, apparently I hadn't informed them of two previous claims, strange, because I thought I had, but they said no.
Now the two claims they are refering to took place in 2009, a year before I first insured with them last year, so why are they now bringing them up :confusion-confused: surely they would have checked my record when I first insured with them.
They agreed to refund my premium (I'm still waiting) less admin costs of £70 but I was covered until 10th October, so that's twelve days at £70 works out to £5.83 a day, or a year at £2128
Anyways up I am still trying to find someone who will insure me, so far I have been turned down by 5 insurance companies.
So it looks as though the Cruiser is going to be laid up for a year, or until these claims become redundant

this is a bit of a worry for me Chas, as im with flux and since my last renewal ive had 2 accidents, one of which was that bentley, which could well have cost them over 50k, ive also gained 5 points.

my renewal is december 20th, so im going to call them mid november and get a price. at least then ive got a month to try and get it sorted.

at worst i will stick my cruiser on limited mileage, say 1500 per year. :)

Fingers crossed for you Ben, it seems as though Adrian Flux are getting more like all the others, they are supposed to be 4x4 specialists but they didn't like the amount of modifications I've got on my Landcruiser, :naughty: plus of course my accident record

[quote="Dark Dude":18lzssg9]I've got to ask. Is anyone here who lives within the M25 paying less than £800 to insure (fully comp) their Land Cruiser?

Can't remember exactly, but around £660 with Adrian Flux

I seriously don't understand this. I'm in my 40's, I've only got 3 points on my license and full NCB. Yet I pay £10 shy of a grand for a near non modified LC100 with Adrian Flux. I am perplexed.

I just renewed with Sure Term. £750 for my 80 with mods declared. I'm 29 with 3yrs NCB.

So I'm doing ok then with NFU - £600 all in for the 120, all mods etc. with 5 yrs NCB

I managed to get quite a reduction when i told them i had removed the third row of seats.

That's strange, when I was insured with them and told them I had removed all seats except the driver and front passenger ones, it didn't make any difference at all.

Just got the renewal quote through from Chris Knott - £862 TPFT with all mods declared, mileage limited to 8000, named driver who is 25 and 2 years NCB. I asked for a quote without the named driver and it was only £50 cheaper. Last year it was £751. Apparently the rise simply reflects a general rise in insurance premiums

Trouble is I really want fully comp now I've had so much work done. Might see what other quote I can get

Just ran two quotes through Confused for fully comp. Both exactly the same in all details except that the second quote listed modifications as suspension and tinted rear windows.

First quote = £424

Second quote = £1174

We really are getting stitched-up :angry-cussingblack: :angry-screaming: :angry-fire:

Absolutely unbelieveable  They just quoted me £595 fully comp stating "the more modifications the better". I listed absolutely everything and put the vehicle value at 12k. I don't think I have ever had an insurance quote make me happy before :D

Brilliant advice. Cheers

I phoned them and spoke to Lorraine, but unfortunately no can do

got my renewal from flux this week. from £600 last year t0 £1757. it says on the renewal form that my crash with the bentley is still pending with regards to cost.

told them about my 5 points and that put it up to £2163!

dropped the limited milage down to 1000per year and it only came down to £1757.

theres no way im paying that. if i cant get a dedent price, (less than £750) i will take it off the road till i export it to OZ when i emigrate next year.
its going to be so nice living in OZ and not having to have car insurance, as the 12monthly rego (road tax) includes 3rd party insurance.

What is the yearly cost of rego in Oz Ben?

its a few years since i last owned a vehicle over there, but i seem to remember it was a few hundred dollars from Vic Roads. so £250-£300 max.

the other thing i like, is if you renew the rego each year, and dont let it run out, then it doesnt need to have an MOT style test ever year.

and as i said before car insurance isnt compulsory, but obviously rego is if its being used on the road. did i also mention fuel is a lot cheaper, was roughly half the UK cost when i was last over there, in the cities and suburbs.

seems we really get a 5hit deal in this country when it comes to driving.

Sounds like they look after the people in that country, not like here where we just get ripped off
